South Yorkshire businesses highlighted as Sheffield furniture retailer hosts Nick Clegg
Sheffield furniture store Ponsford today joined forces with Barclays to host a business event for the South Yorkshire business community.
Hosted by Angus Ponsford at the retailer’s headquarters on London Road, Sheffield, guest speakers included Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg MP together with Barclays Investment Strategist Henk Potts.
Over 50 businesses from across the region had the opportunity to ask questions on business matter affecting the South Yorkshire region.
The discussion also covered the outlook for the global economy and financial markets, highlighting the risks and opportunities for investors in 2014 and beyond.
Andrew Marsh, Barclays corporate director for South Yorkshire said: “Business growth is hugely important for the success of the South Yorkshire area and so were delighted to be able to bring leading business figures together from across the region to hear from our guest speakers.”
Nick Clegg, MP for Sheffield Hallam and Deputy Prime Minister said: “Economic growth is back, unemployment is down and jobs are at record highs. Our economy is now firmly on the road to health, but there is no room for complacency.
“As a Government we need to strain every sinew to allow businesses in South Yorkshire and beyond to be even more successful, create more jobs and help our country keep on track.
“That’s why getting out of Whitehall and listening directly to the experiences of local businesses on the ground is so important to me.
“Just like nationally, the signs for our region are good. Confidence is returning and the latest figures show there are now 604,100 employed in South Yorkshire, an increase of nearly 14,000 over just one year.
“That’s an achievement South Yorkshire’s business community can be proud of.”
