Wates Construction awarded £12 million Bradford school contract

Contractor, Wates Construction, has been awarded a £12 million contract to build a brand new secondary school on Fenby Avenue in Bradford.

Appointed by Integrated Bradford LEP Ltd, Wates will now deliver a 7,700 sq m seven-form entry facility with a capacity for 1,050 students aged 11 to 16 years.

The school is set to be named Grace Academy and will be sponsored by the Bradford Diocesan Academy Trust (BDAT).

Construction on the project will commence in April this year, with completion scheduled for summer 2015.

Wates’ presence in Bradford has also seen the contractor deliver the new £29m Dixons Allerton Academy building on Rhodesway in Allerton, which reached completion ahead of the new academic year last September.

David Price, business unit director, Wates Construction, Yorkshire, commented: “Our appointment as main contractor for this new facility will see the Wates team continue our role in creating state-of-the-art school buildings for the young people of Bradford.

“Wates’ Adapt model has been developed over the past two years and will enable us to deliver on the individual needs of the new school in Fenby, whilst bringing true value for money throughout the project.”

Garry McDonald, project manager, Integrated Bradford LEP Ltd, which is developing the scheme in partnership with Bradford Council said: “The new Academy will be a fantastic addition to the local community and one that will benefit them for many years to come.

“We are delighted to be working with our partners Bradford Council, along with our Principle Contractor, Wates Construction, on another new school building project.”

David Shaw, associate director at CPMG said: “CPMG is delighted to continue an excellent working relationship with Wates in the delivery of a fantastic new build academy for Bradford Metropolitan and District Council.

“The Adapt solution has enabled the design team to meet an extremely tight programme with a well considered and cost effective school solution that has been tailored to meet the new Academy’s requirements for education delivery.”
