Bank holiday ‘seventh heaven’ for Waterloo Beer Festival

Liverpool’s annual Waterloo Beer Festival will - for the first time - take place over May Day bank holiday weekend this year.

The popular festival, organised by Liverpool Organic Brewery, returns to Old Christ Church, running from Thursday May 1 to Sunday May 4.

Sunday’s session is now longer than ever before and is expected to attract record visitor numbers as guests enjoy the festival atmosphere before Bank Holiday Monday.

Mark Hensby, managing director of Liverpool Organic Brewery, said: “It is often lamented that we as a nation enjoy fewer public holidays than the rest of Europe, lagging behind the likes of Russia, Italy and even Scotland.

“Rather than spend their precious bank holiday mowing the lawn or failing to build a flat-pack sofa bed, we wanted to give people something really special to do, so we decided hold the Waterloo Beer Festival across the May Day weekend.

“It’s our seventh event at Waterloo but our first festival to be held over a bank holiday weekend, so it promises to be a memorable affair. Not only can guests enjoy a full day of drinking exquisite ales on Sunday without any work guilt whatsoever, they can also do it to a soundtrack of some fantastic live music.

“Anyone joining us on Thursday, Friday or Saturday can even spend Sunday picking through the beers that they didn’t quite have time for first time around. After all, the grass will still be there the following weekend, as will the flat-pack kit - but we won’t!”
