Cheshire company to supply housing data to ONS

Construction data business Barbour ABI has won a competitive tender to supply communal dwellings data to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Building on the success of recent wins, Barbour ABI has been chosen to work with the ONS after a formal tender process that analysed the quality of its relevant planning data and research control processes.

Communal dwellings data, as a subset of all dwellings, is a short-term statistics indicator used by Eurostat, a directorate-general of the European Commission, to formulate and monitor the economic and monetary policy of the EU and the wider euro area in conjunction with other datasets in the United Kingdom national accounts.

Adam Valentine, group content director at Barbour ABI, led the bid alongside Simon Mahoney, group director.

He said: “It’s crucial that the ONS’ incoming partner is able to deliver figures to a high degree of accuracy within a compact timescale; having had the ONS previously assess and select our new orders data, we’re very pleased that our planning data has received similar accreditation.

“As the chosen partner of the ONS, Cabinet Office and Treasury, this latest win is further confirmation that Barbour ABI is the leading supplier of construction data to the industry.”

Barbour ABI is based at Cheshire Oaks near Ellesmere Port. Since 2013, the firm has been the sole provider of the New Orders in the Construction Industry dataset to the ONS.

It is also the chosen data provider for the CPA Forecasting Panel, which is made up of a group of senior industry figures and leaders, and is contracted to collect, collate and publish the Government Construction and Infrastructure pipeline (GCIP) until 2015.
