Karate Kids become World Champions with support from Silverbean
North East digital marketing agency, Silverbean, has helped two Karate students become World Champions through a fundraiser inspired by a hit channel 4 TV show.
Sisters Sadie Stoner and Holly Stoner, from the Dokan karate club in South Tyneside, are part of a twelve student team selected to make up a third of the squad representing England in the WSKU world championships. The event took place on April 4th to April 6th in Pristina, Kosovo.
Black belt Sadie, 11, won gold at the championships on the first day, alongside her older sister Holly Stoner, 15, who is also won gold and is working towards gaining her black belt status this summer.
With a considerable distance for the group of talented youngsters to travel, naturally extra funds were required to support their efforts, which is where staff at Silverbean Digital Marketing Agency, based at Hoults Yard in Newcastle played their part.
Speaking of the financial obstacles the karate club faced, Kevan Mitchinson from the Dokan Karate Association said:
“Dokan is the premier competition karate club in the North East England, no other club competes in as many competitions or have as good a success rate as Dokan but money is always an issue.”
The fundraiser, called ‘Come Lunch With Us’ inspired by the popular Channel 4 TV show ‘Come Dine With Me’ involved Silverbean’s budding chefs making lunch for the 30 strong office, with diners making a donation for taste buds to be tickled. Menu choices ranged from delicious pulled pork sandwiches to Chicken Rogan Josh.
Each plate of food generated around £3-£5 profit for the fund which quickly added up.
Amy Murray of Silverbean, the brains behind the fundraiser stated,
“When we heard the squad needed our help we couldn’t wait to come up with some fundraising ideas.
“We are honoured to have been part of this opportunity which allowed some of the region’s best karate kids to showcase their talents at a prestigious event. We are delighted that the squad has been rightly recognised for their hard work and dedication in front of a global audience.”
Eve Whitaker, who works with Silverbean, is mum to the two girls and can’t believe the effectiveness of the fundraiser,
“It’s been a huge hit, I can’t believe how much has been raised!”
Sadie and Holly, both of Whitburn Academy in South Tyneside, have been practising their high kicks since 2010. The sisters dedicate around 10 hours a week to training and compete nationally around 15 times a year.
Thanks to donations, various funding and the gastronomic talents of the staff at Silverbean, the squad have lived the opportunity of a lifetime to bring back gold for England.
