Newcastle United Foundation abseil smashes fundraising target

Over 100 participants fundraised more than £10,000 by abseiling from the top of St James’ Park on Saturday 12th April.

Fundraisers from some of the Foundation’s Corporate Partners, including Metro Radio, Santander, ISOS, Zenith People and AB Connexions were sponsored to take on the challenge of abseiling 150ft from the top of St. James’ Park.

The businesses were also joined by the graduates of the Foundation’s United 4 Employment Programme, supported by Your Homes Newcastle, who raised over £1000, and participants from the current National Citizen Programme, who volunteered their services on the day.

Alan Metcalfe, General Manager, Zenith People, said:

“What a brilliant event, and what a fantastic team they are at the Foundation! We had a thoroughly great day, it was excellent for Zenith People team building, brilliant for raising money and for building our confidence. The team at the Foundation were truly professional in that they all made us feel at ease and although it was nerve racking, we all felt truly inspired afterwards. Thank you all.”

Micky Welch, Newsreader, Metro Radio News, added:

“We’ve had a great day - it’s been challenging, but for all the right reasons. We’re delighted to have raised funds for the Newcastle United Foundation, their work across the community is unparalleled and we have been so impressed by the variation of projects that they deliver.”

Sarah Medcalf, Newcastle United Foundation Fundraising Manager, commented:

“We can’t thank the abseilers enough for their support. To have smashed our fundraising target of £10,000 is a huge achievement and goes a long way to helping us continue to deliver projects that enhance the lives of the most vulnerable young people and adults in our community.

“We’re always grateful for the individual and corporate support we receive and we would be delighted to hear from any prospective partners that would like to work with us in the future.”
