Mechan appoints executive to expand exports

Rail depot handling equipment specialist, Mechan, is strengthening its presence overseas with the appointment of a new export sales executive.

Julie Billson joins the Sheffield-based manufacturer to maintain existing client relationships and develop high value opportunities in new markets.

Mechan will benefit from Julie’s background in manufacturing and exports, having worked previously in sales to South Europe and Latin America for local firm, Macalloy, producers of steel bars and cable systems for the construction sector.

Richard Carr, Mechan’s managing director, said: “We are keen to develop our global reputation by establishing new contacts and expanding our network of international agents. Our export team has control over the markets they look at and the flexibility to pursue opportunities as they arise. Julie has a proven track record in this arena and I have every confidence she will be a valuable addition to the firm.”

One of Julie’s first challenges will be to represent Mechan at the Rail Solutions Asia exhibition, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from May 7-9. Prior to the event, she will be joining a two-day trade mission organised by the Rail Industry Association, to meet key members of the local transport industry, scout for new contacts and investigate local markets.

Julie added: “There is an active rail sector operating in the Far East and we have identified Indonesia and Singapore specifically as areas in which we can increase Mechan’s presence. My colleagues have been extremely welcoming and I am enjoying learning about new products, industry sectors and markets. Rail Solutions Asia will be the biggest test of my abilities to date and I am really looking forward to the challenge.”

Mechan can be found in the UK pavilion at Rail Solutions Asia, unit 11, hall A, level three of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. For more information, contact the firm on (0114) 257 0563 or visit www.mechan.co.uk
