Nottingham employers lend support to local food bank

Business leaders in Nottingham volunteered to sort and pack food parcels at St.Anns and Sneinton Food Store as the organisation witnesses unprecedented numbers of people turning to them for help to feed their families.

St.Anns and Sneinton Food Store, run by St Anns Debt Centre, has helped 404 people in the last four months compared with 926 people over the whole of the previous year.

Members of the Advisory Board of Business in the Community East Midlands visited the store to see at first-hand how the organisation is distributing parcels to people who are struggling to buy food.

Seven representatives from some of the region’s largest employers, including Rolls-Royce, Boots, North Midland Construction, Shoosmiths, Yorkshire Bank, PWC and Carillion, volunteered as part of a drive to encourage businesses to donate to the food store.

Liz Needleman, Area Director at Business in the Community for England East said “The East Midlands Advisory Board volunteered at St Ann’s Debt Centre as part of their support for Responsible Business Week. It was both informative and humbling as working at the coal face brings home the difficulties of day to day life for many people in our communities, and reinforces businesses’ commitment to play their part in supporting those most in need.”

Feeding those with no income, the food store offers both one off food parcels and regularly supports members of the local community with weekly packages.
