Ground broken on Air Products new gasification plant
Work has started on a £300 million Teesside gasification plant operated by US-based Air Products.
The plant, which will be one of the largest of its kind in the world once operational in 2016, is the second operated by the company in the same area.
Cabinet Minister Francis Maude was at the Billingham site with David Taylor, Air Products’ energy business vice-president, to mark the start of construction.
The facility will create 50 jobs, and is estimated to support about 750 roles in the construction process.
It is intended to divert 350,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste from landfill for energy generation each year.
