Record number of new firms for Bury

New company registrations reached a record high in Bury last year, according to independent research.

There were 817 new companies formed over the 12 months - more than any other year on record and a 5% rise on the same period in 2012.

The report, by Duport Associates Ltd, also shows a fall in company closures, which led to an overall rise in net company growth (the number of company formations minus the number of company closures).

The rise in company formation number could be linked to a £10 million regeneration project that is underway in the area. The plan will see around 240 homes, a small supermarket and other commercial units built on a 27 acre site of a former factory.

Peter Valaitis, Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, said: “The growing number of new businesses in Bury could be a sign that business confidence is returning to the area, while falling closures implies that trading conditions are improving.”

The data contained in the report is assimilated and analysed by Duport using public record data from sources including Companies House, Office for National Statistics and Ordnance Survey.

Duport Associates Ltd is a leading UK company formation agent, established in 1997 and registering around 10,000 new companies each year.
