The end of Windows XP poses ‘remarkable security threats’ according to local web hosting company
Thousands of local businesses that still use Windows XP could face colossal hacker attacks, according to one of the city’s most trusted cloud-hosting provider.
Director of Cyber Host Pro Chris Danks said that following the recent decline of the operating system Microsoft would no longer provide security updates for its users.
As a result of the ceased support, there is a high probability that malicious hackers will exploit the vulnerabilities, which Microsoft will no longer patch.
He said: “Although the operating system is highly dated, many local businesses have not updated their computers due to the reluctance to change. Some workers, in particular those with little IT knowledge, may feel worried about the technological advancements.
“However, businesses that continue to use Windows XP are opening themselves up to remarkable security threats that could pose a dramatic danger to their company. My advice would be to migrate to a new operating system, in order to comprehensively safeguard the sensitive information that is stored on the computers.”
Depending upon the size of the business, migration can be somewhat time-consuming. However, with the use of automation the process can be greatly accelerated.
Chris and the team, who are based on Old Hall Street, have provided on-going support to local businesses since their establishment in 2002 - in addition to delivering an array of internet solutions including domain name registration and email set-ups.
He added: “Microsoft has produced a series of security patches for Windows XP but these are only obtainable to businesses that are prepared to pay for custom support. Therefore, it would be much more cost effective to upgrade to a modern operating system.
“As technology is continuously developing, it really is essential for companies to be aware of the key progressions, in order for them to adapt, flourish and be ahead of the game.”
