Tyneside playgroup entrepreneur to expand into own premises

A Tyneside entrepreneur who ditched her job at the tax office to start her own playgroup business is now looking to expand into her own dedicated premises.

Catherine Young set up Carroty Custards, a community playgroup and children’s party business, two years ago, after taking over the running of her local community playgroup.

Now, with The Business Factory, Catherine is looking to expand into dedicated premises.

Catherine said: “After having our children, we realised that returning to my previous job at the tax office was not going to be workable for our family and decided that the time was right for me to take the plunge and start my own venture.

“The opportunity to take over a local playgroup which was on the verge of being wound-up came along at just the right time and offered the work life balance that I was looking for.

“Right from the start, we had the community at the heart of our offering. Our groups are a chance for parents, grandparents and caregivers to come along, enjoy a friendly chat, a cup of coffee and allow the kids to make new friends and take part in a variety of activities.”

The Business Factory, part of The Raising Enterprise North Tyneside project, funded by North Tyneside Council and ERDF, offers free advice and professional support to anyone planning to start a business in North Tyneside.
