Leeds top authority in the UK for new home owners with Help To Buy

The Leeds city region has the highest amount of new home owners in the UK in the past year, according to new results, coming in at 337 legally completed homes purchased.

In the first 12 months (to end March 2014) there were 19,394 properties bought with the support of the Help to Buy equity loan scheme according to the report published by the Department of Communities and Local Government.

The majority of sales over the year were to first-time buyers, representing 87.5% of total sales.

After Leeds, Wiltshire comes in a close second (316) , then Central Bedfordshire (287), Milton Keynes (282) and Peterborough (271).

Within Yorkshire, York had a lower 38 homes purchased, Sheffield had 91, Bradford came in at a respectable 244, Calderdale and Kirklees had 37 and 59 respectively, Wakefield 179 whilst Harrogate had a mere 8 new homes bought under the scheme.
