Northumberland heat pump entrepreneurs bring Kiwi model to the region

An entrepreneurial couple from Northumberland have successfully imported a business model from New Zealand to fill their order books in the region.

Eglingham-based Shane and Susie McDonald run Calibrate Energy, and have brought renewable heat pump technology that can be managed and maintained offsite, to the UK.

The pair sold their successful New Zealand business to relocate back to the UK and have secured funding from angel investors to support growth of Calibrate. The firm’s order books are now full until the end of the year.

The McDonald’s have found their technology is attractive given its remote monitoring system which can cut costs for operators.

Shane added: “At the moment, most, if not all, companies who install any type of heating system – be this a boiler or renewable energy solution - have to allocate a substantial budget for the maintenance of that system. And in the case of companies who have multiple sites, this cost can be particularly high.

“What we provide is a complete remote monitoring system where we can identify and put something right, in many cases, before it’s even been spotted on site.

“As such this practically eliminates the cost of expensive call outs and, as such, enables companies to divert their maintenance budgets to other important areas of the business or to the tenants using their buildings.”
