North East care home operator acquires Peterlee property

North East care home operator, Popular Care Limited, has added Peterlee Care Home to its growing portfolio of operations.

The purpose-built home, on the town’s Wescott Road long-term accommodation for people suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, and Popular now intend to invest in the facility.

The news follows a recent announcement that Durham County Council has approved a recommendation to close Grampian Care Home in Peterlee as well as four others elsewhere in the county.

Richard Warren, finance director of Popular Care Limited said: “Our primary objective is to improve the lives of our residents – our home is actually their home and we always remember that.

“Local suppliers will be used for both everyday operations and any refurbishment work, which we hope will both shore up and also create new jobs in the local area.

“As a privately owned operator based in the North East, we are proud to be part of the Peterlee community.”

Newcastle Law Firm Mincoffs acted for Popular Care Limited on the transaction.

Corporate partner John Nicholson said: “Mincoffs are delighted to successfully act for Popular Care Limited on yet another significant care home purchase, particularly at a time when Durham County Council are recommending the closure of surrounding care homes.”
