Leeds Bradford Airport reports 23% increase in Jet2holiday customers
Jet2holidays has announced a huge rise in the number of passengers travelling over the late May bank holiday weekend this year, with 32,000 expected to be flying out.
Leeds Bradford International Airport accounts for almost a quarter of those flying out, an increase of 23% on last year’s figures from the region.
Over a quarter of holidaymakers have chosen the guaranteed sunshine of the Balearic Islands to escape to, with the traditional favourites of Alicante and the Canary Islands continuing to be popular throughout May.
Top five destinations for the late May bank holiday weekend 2014 include: Majorca, Alicante, Tenerife, Ibiza and Faro.
May has been a hugely successful month for the company as the early bank holiday also saw a big increase in passenger numbers. During the May Day weekend over 10,000 people travelled with Jet2holidays, another 28% increase compared to 2013.
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “This is going to be our busiest late May bank holiday weekend getaway yet from Leeds Bradford. It’s clear that our customers are in search of one thing – sunshine!
“The traditional destinations in Spain remain the most popular and each year we are seeing a rise in passengers heading there at this time of year.”
