Cheshire garden and home centre set for growth – and new jobs

Warrington-based Bents Garden and Home is set to create up to 150 jobs as part of its expansion programme.

The firm is to hold a series of recruitment events to fill the new positions on July 8, 10 and 12, with roles ranging from general assistants, to chefs, customer services staff and supervisors.

Bents secured an £8m loan from Barclays Bank in February this year to develop a two-storey extension providing new office and warehousing facilities and an extra 58,000 sq ft of retail space.

Set to open in October, the new extension will also include several new leading-brand concessions.

The site’s Fresh Approach Restaurant will also be refurbished to double the size of the food hall to include several fresh deli counters.

Both the children’s boutique and pet care department will also increase in size, with plans for a groom room and pet café.

Managing director Matthew Bent said: “Our colleagues are crucial to the success of our business, so the recruitment process for the new position is a very important one and one which we have already started to plan for.

“There will be openings at all levels and we are keen to employ locally. I would urge people to look out for further details of our open events.”

Bents Garden & Home was established in 1935 by Alfred and Margaret Bent who started their family business by growing and selling roses, just metres away from the centre’s current location.

The centre currently employs more than 300 staff across all areas of the business.

The Barclays funding represented the start of a new and ambitious 10-year development plan to transform the site into a major retail and leisure destination.
