Leeds United urges incarcerated David Haigh’s lawyers to drop winding up petition

Sports Capital, the Guernsey-based consortium affiliated with former managing director of Leeds United, David Haigh, is being urged to drop their winding up petition against the club.

The winding up petition was called in April before Eleonora Sports and Massimo Cellino’s (pictured above) takeover was complete, and being disputed by the Football League.

It was intended to reclaim the near £1 million that Haigh had loaned to the club.

United’s main bank account has been frozen and its finances will be heavily restricted until the petition is dismissed or Cellino agrees to repay Sport Capital’s loan.

Cellino’s legal team hope to have it withdrawn before Monday’s court session takes place at the Royal Courts of Justice in London on June 9.

Haigh has now spent over 2 weeks in prison in Dubai for alleged fraud against Gulf Finance House, the previous owners of Leeds United, which is expected to be used against him in the event the hearing does take place.
