Lego designer shares BIG building blocks for successful businesses

One of Lego’s design team will be speaking at Creative Lancashire’s BIG Conference on June 18.

Kayleigh Davis, Creative Lead for the Danish toy brand, will be speaking on the BIG Conference’s Relationships and Users Panel.

LEGO have turned into a $4.5 billion success story through understanding their users and by radically innovating across their business.

The theme of this year’s Business Innovation for Growth (BIG) Conference is ‘Transformation: Mission and Ambition’. It has been organised by Creative Lancashire - a service provided by Lancashire County Council through its economic development company, Lancashire County Developments Limited.

Ruth Raban from Creative Lancashire explained: “People who drive innovation in a number of multi-national businesses including LEGO, the Future Laboratory, and Brother, will be revealing the secrets of their success at our BIG Conference.

“With positivity and growth now firmly back on the business agenda, it’s time to re-think, re-energise and review what we do.

“The BIG Conference is organised by Creative Lancashire. It is designed to help business leaders grasp the opportunity for change, and create a new sense of purpose, direction, and momentum while the business landscape transforms.”

BIG takes place on Wednesday 18 June at Creative Edge, Edge Hill University’s creative arts department, in Ormskirk.

Joining Kayleigh on the Relationships and Users Panel will be Richard Scholey, the Director of national design agency The Chase, and Darren Evans, MD of The Engine Rooms, where understanding relationships with clients and their users is the key to business success.

Another speaker will be Christopher Sanderson, co-founder of The Future Laboratory, where he is responsible for delivering the company’s extensive global roster of conferences.

Clients who have booked one of his inspirational keynotes include Gucci Group, Selfridges, M&S, Chanel, Harrods, Aldo, H&M, General Motors, BBDO, Conde Nast Media and Omnicom.

Christopher Sanderson recently presented Channel 4 TV’s five part series, Home of the Future. He co-writes a monthly column for Luxury Briefing and is a SuperBoard member of The British Fashion Council’s Fashion Trust.

Ruth Raban added: “For Lancashire businesses who want to grow, but feel they’ve hit a glass ceiling, there’ll be invaluable advice from Phil Jones, CEO of Brother, who will provide a dose of inspiration to get things moving and fire our imaginations through his practical business tips, thought provoking questions, and enthusiasm to think BIG!

“A popular speaker from our 2013 conference, Phil will be joining us again to ignite your passion to grow through purpose, people and potential-based thinking.

“The possibilities of international innovation with specific attention to China, will be promoted for those who are considering R&D across continents.”

Delegates will also hear from tech experts - Dr Ania Servant will explain the importance of the substance Graphene, and Dr Paul Coulton will explore the infinite possibilities of the ‘Internet of things’.
