She knows the score – trainee accountant Sophie combines figures with football
On weekdays she’s a committed trainee accountant, diligently working her way through audits and preparing accounts for clients.
But at the weekend it all kicks off for Sophie Flynn from Rishton as she captains Blackburn Rovers Ladies FC first team.
Sophie, who works for Cassons business advisers LLP has been playing for Blackburn since being spotted at the age of 12.
And the talented 21 year old always keeps her eye on the ball whether it’s footie or figures she’s juggling.
As a trainee at Cassons, Sophie still has her exams to sit, and will be studying hard for the next year to qualify as a chartered accountant.
But in between work and studies she still finds time to train twice a week before leading her team out on to the pitch every Sunday.
Sophie says “Trying to fit football in alongside working and studying was hard at first, but I always make sure my revision is done so I can go out and play football.”
And although she loves working for Cassons, Sophie, who plays centre midfield, says she’d jump at the chance to play football full time:
“Being a professional footballer really would be a dream come true, but the women’s game just isn’t at the same level as men’s football.
“I always enjoyed maths, PE and business studies at school, so I’m really lucky to be able to combine working and training to be an accountant with playing football in my spare time.
“I’d love to play in the Women’s Super League one day – but I’ve got to pass my accountancy exams so I can be part of the Cassons first team as well!”
