Work starts on £2.5 million Seaton Delaval housing development
Work has started on a £2.5 million housing development on the the site of the former Blyth Valley Council offices in Seaton Delaval.
Arch, the Northumberland Development Company are building 28 homes - a series of two and three bedroomed homes and some smaller apartments.
The first properties are expected to be complete in October this year and the overall scheme is expected to be complete by January 2015. The properties are earmarked for private rental.
North Shields-based Turney Wylde are acting as the main contractor, supported by Plan B, a team of design partners for the project (a consortium made up of the Elliott Associates and Ian Darby Partnership, supported by Shadbolt Consulting).
Dave Ledger, Arch chair and Deputy Leader of Northumberland County Council said: “These new homes at Seaton Delaval will be Arch’s first major investment in developing a new rental housing offer, and our first direct housing development.
“Private rental has often been seen as a niche sector of the housing market, but across Britain demand for high-quality, professionally-managed private rented housing is growing rapidly as many people, especially young families, are finding it harder or less attractive to buy.”
