Eight jobs secured as London cleaners make move into North East

Eight jobs have been secured by a London cleaning company’s move into the North East market.

Viper Cleaning Services Ltd have secured a contract to clean bus stations and shelters across Nexus’ network, following a competitive tendering process.

Eight Nexus workers have tranferred to Viper as part of the deal.

Viper will service medium sized bus stations managed by Nexus, including: South Shields, Jarrow, Blaydon, Winlaton, North Shields, Concord (Washington), Hetton and Houghton.

They will also look after the cleaning of 1,950 bus shelters across four districts – Gateshead, North Tyneside, Sunderland and South Tyneside – as well as the two passenger waiting areas at the Shields Ferry landing, one in South Shields and one in North Shields.

Nexus operations manager Customer Services, John Souter, said: “We’re pleased to announce a partnership with a new cleaning contractor and we’re looking forward to working with them.

“This will lead to improved cleaning regimes at some of the many medium sized passenger interchanges and bus stations that we manage on a day to day basis.”

Commercial director for Viper Cleaning Services Ltd, Hannah Bridgman, added: “We’re delighted to be working in North East England and are looking forward to a successful partnership with Nexus.

“A great team of cleaning staff has transferred over to us and we’ll be working closely with them to ensure that we deliver exceptionally high standards going forward. We are already working on a number of measures to improve the cleaning regimes that we have taken over.”

Bus shelters in the district of Newcastle are looked after and kept clean by a separate company called Clear Channel.
