Gateshead marketer lands enviable World Cup job

A director at Gateshead marketing outfit Daykin & Storey has been given the enviable task of travelling to Brazil for the World Cup - thanks to one of the firm’s oldest clients.

Pete Daykin, a business development director at the newly formed agency is in Brazil to work with long-standing clients the Football Supporters’ Federation.

Pete is joining a host of football luminaries, including former Sunderland star Gary Bennett and Kevin Miles, as he helps the Fan’s Embassy service.

The service includes a 24-hour mobile helpline, an SMS text services, Facebook and Twitter feeds, as well as on-the-ground advice and support.

Daykin and Storey’s Jenny Hodgson said: “Pete has been going to the World Cup since 2006 - because we have such a strong relationship with the Football Supporters’ Federation.

“It’s great for our firm to be represented out there, particularly as we have a good client base within football publishing. It’s a hard job - but someone has to do it!”

Pete added: “The agency’s work with the football industry is close to many of our hearts and an important part of our eclectic portfolio of clients and projects.

“So – whatever some of my colleagues might think! – this trip to Brazil isn’t merely a fan’s jolly, but a really significant opportunity for us to put the work we do into practice and to lend a hand to England supporters during the tournament.”

Whilst in Brazil, Pete will be helping to distribute some of the fanzines Daykin & Storey are involved in producing, including the England Fans’ Guide to Brazil and the Free Lions.

Daykin & Storey was founded last year through the merger of Azure and Virtuoso. The firm have recently worked with the Barclays Premier League and Alan Shearer on the #YouAreFootball campaign; on the investigative journalist Declan Hill’s history of football match-fixing book; and the quarterly football magazine - The Blizzard.
