SuperKrush shoot for the stars with growing team and TV studio plans

Newcastle’s Superkrush Films have set their sights on becoming the region’s biggest video production agency with the appointment of four new positions and the purchase and development of their own TV Studio.

The company is now exploiting the marketing expertise of managing director, Nick Todd, formerly of Bob Geldof’s Ten Alps Vision and has grown its workforce from four to seven.

SuperKrush have also received funding for their acquisition of a former working mens’ club in Gateshead, which will be converted into a full TV studio.

Owner Chris Taylor, who has moved into a more strategic role from his previous creative directorship, said: “It’s going to be the only commercial TV studio in the North East - and totally custom built.

“We received a £90k grant from the Let’s Grow fund in order to carry out the works - and that meant my time was spent on satisfying funding applications and formulating our strategy.

“As a result, we’ve promoted from within. Jon, who has worked with us for four years has been promoted from editor to creative director - and we’ve added a new post-production team.”

Editors Paul Meynell and Ben Harker have joined SuperKrush and are working across their three broadcast edit suites.

Recent brand partnerships with multi-national companies have enabled the company to add a 3rd new staff member, Becki Pitman as production Co-ordinator.

Chris added: “We’re working with the likes of P&G, Standard Life and Berghaus on more substantial video runs. It’s better for us as we get to really develop ideas over time, and more cost effective for client who will benefit from more activity.

“The make-up of firm’s marketing has really changed - now video is seen as a distinct part of the activity, which requires its own time and budgets - which is great for us.”

Work is now underway on the conversion of SuperKrush’s working mens’ club - which is set to house studio space and smaller office units.

Chris added: “The idea is to develop our own area and create additional space to rent to other like-minded business, perhaps even businesses that complement us with their skills and expertise.

“We’ll likely stage events there and make it a communal space.

“There’s so many great spaces like this, in and around Newcastle. They’re perfect for us and its nice for a creative company to adapt and regenerate something that was in decline.”
