North East event to raise funds for palliative care
ONE of the region’s leading events will team up with a north east charity to raise significant funds for palliative care.
Organisers of the annual Oyster Festival at Hardwick Hall Hotel have announced this year’s nominated charity will be Butterwick Hospice at Bishop Auckland.
The Hospice provides palliative care services to the Durham Dales and Sedgefield areas and cares for more than 650 patients and their families each year.
Clair McGregor, Fundraising Team Leader for Butterwick Hospice at Bishop Auckland, said: “We provide a palliative home care team who help patients in their own homes day and night, 365 days a year as well as a mobile aromatherapy service, specialist neurological day care, heart failure support services and a range of therapies to help patients and loved ones combat illness and stress-related symptoms.
“As we offer these services free of charge, fundraising is essential to ensure the Hospice is always there to serve the local community and the money raised at the Oyster Festival will go directly to patient care and services to help improve the lives of the people in the communities we serve.
“We’re very grateful for the opportunity to be a presence at such a renowned event and we’re sure it will be an incredible day with lots of glamorous outfits, laughter and good times.”
John Adamson, Managing Director of Ramside Estates, added: “The Oyster Festival is the perfect opportunity to get dressed up, have a great time with friends and colleagues and give a little something back to the local community.
“The Hospice’s fundraising activities will add some extra fun to the day and I’ve been told there are some fantastic prizes in store for lucky guests.
The festival has raised close to £500,000 for regional charities since the first event in 2004.
The 11th annual Oyster Festival will take place at Hardwick Hall Hotel on Friday, September 19 and includes performances from 80s soul legend Alexander O’Neal, comedian Terry Alderton and festival favourites Wildcats of Kilkenny and JJ Galway Band.
