Barnsley’s Naylor Industries picks up HSBC award with £6 million finance attached
Barnsley-based Naylor Industries have been crowned the North and Scotland Regional winners of the HSBC Global Connections initiative.
The companies picked up their award at a ceremony held at The Monastery in Manchester. Naylor Industries picked up the award in Mid-Market Enterprise category for businesses with a turnover of between £30 million and £100 million.
They will now go on to compete in the national final, along with 12 other businesses from across the UK.
To help facilitate that growth, the winning businesses have recently joined other regional finalists from across the UK on an HSBC ‘International Exchange’ visit to Turkey, where they gained an insight into the opportunities to trade with that market and develop links with local businesses.
In addition to the International Exchange, the winning businesses can gain access to lending facilities up to £6 million, linked to a financial reward of up to £120,000 (doubled for the National winners).
Naylor is a fourth generation family business founded in 1890. The Barnsley-based company manufactures building and construction products and is a world leader in specialised fields such as chemical drainage and trenches technology.
It employs over 220 people at factories in South and West Yorkshire, Fife and the West Midlands, and generates a turnover in excess of £30 million. Its products have been used on every continent and in 49 different countries.
David Beaty, regional director for HSBC Commercial Banking in the North & Scotland, said: “All the SMEs in the final have overcome challenges. All of them really invest for the future and invest in their people.
“There were some very robust conversations among the judges, but in the end we were unanimous about the winners.”
Alison McGregor, regional director, Corporate Banking, UK North, said: “The MME judges were looking for passion, innovation and sustainability. All three of our finalists demonstrated these qualities while being very different businesses from each other.”
Edward Naylor, chief executive of Naylor Industries, said: “For once I’m absolutely speechless. The whole workforce has contributed to this award and everyone will be really proud.
“The financial rewards will enable us to further speed our growth in our three priority markets – Indonesia, the Philippines and Mexico.”
