£4.5 million specialist care home in Hartlepool to create 150 potential new jobs

Work has begun on a multimillion pound specialist care development in Hartlepool which is expected to create 67 new jobs when open, with the prospect of more jobs after a second phase of development.

Mariner Care is to operate four bungalows from the site of the former Bridge Youth Centre site in Burbank Street.

The properties will house 12 vulnerable adults who will receive 24 hour care.

The bungalows, which are being built on former Hartlepool Council owned-land for Mariner Care by the Robertson Construction Group, represent the first phase of an investment that is eventually expected to total more than £4.5 million.

Mariner Care initially plans to recruit 67 new employees with the hope of increasing this to 150 once a second phase of development is completed; involving a further three properties for another 12 service users.

Chief executive of Mariner Care Chris Pooley said: “The bungalows will be designed to the highest possible standards and tailored to the specific needs of the service users living in them.

“Not only will this development be good for people who need our care, it will also contribute to the regeneration of the town by creating vital new job opportunities for local people.”

Councillor Robbie Payne, chair of Hartlepool Council’s Regeneration Services Committee, added: “It is great that Mariner Care is bringing a development of this quality to Hartlepool and, in particular, the Burbank area. It is set to be pioneering in terms of the quality of the accommodation and the level of care that will be provided.

“It has taken some time for the project to reach this stage, but we are delighted that work is now underway on site.”

Mariner Care intends to work closely with local colleges to provide young people from the town with employment opportunities. Employees will be given full training and will be expected to successfully complete qualifications before starting work.
