Tour De France reaches new pinnacle with banner on Leeds tallest office building

A VAST banner to welcome the world’s biggest annual sporting event, Tour de France, has been erected on Pinnacle Leeds, the city’s tallest office and retail building.

The specially-made, 240-metre banner, which says Le Grand Depart, the start date and depicts a yellow jersey, spans from the 19th to the 13th floors on the north side of the newly-refurbished office tower and was made and installed by manufacturer, DS Signs, Leeds, using a window-cleaning cradle.

Leeds City Council approached Pinnacle Leeds owners asking if the giant banner could be placed on the landmark property which dominates Leeds city centre skyline.

In being selected to display the banner, which will be in place for three weeks, Pinnacle Leeds joins a select group of three properties displaying Tour de France emblems, the others being Leeds Town Hall, the Headrow and The Queens Hotel, City Square.

Holbeck Land spokesman, John Barraclough, speaking on behalf of the partnership between Holbeck Land and Moorfield Group responsible for Pinnacle, says: ’We are delighted to be chosen to play a role in this great sporting, cultural and business event which will be broadcast to around 188 different countries with an overall global TV audience of more than 3billion.

“The event is fantastic exposure for Leeds and Yorkshire and, with Pinnacle holding such a prime city centre location, the office tower banner will be seen far and wide.”

Pinnacle’s office occupiers include actuaries, Barnett Waddingham; highway consultants, Steer Davies & Gleave; geological research company, RDR, re-structuring and recovery company, FRP Advisory; Optimisa Research and HM Courts & Tribunal Service. A total of 25,000 sq ft of newly-refurbished office space is available on five floors.

Letting agents for Pinnacle are Eamon Fox, a director at DTZ, Leeds, and Roddy Morrison, a director at Colliers International, Leeds. Retail and leisure agents for the Podium, where retail and leisure occupiers include cocktail bar and bowling alley, Roxy Lanes, which opened in May; Joy, Superdrug, Moss Bross, Next, Pret a Manger, Wish, Greggs and Tesco Express are Pudney Shuttleworth, Savills and Barker Proudlove, all of Leeds.
