£7 million luxury hotel at Humberside Airport set to create 60 jobs given the green light

Business travellers and holidaymakers will be able to stay on Humberside Airport for the first time if a new £7 million luxury hotel development is given the go ahead by North Lincolnshire Council.

East Yorkshire property developer Paul Green will shortly submit a planning application for a 100 bedroom hotel, complete with restaurant, bar and gym.

Green is the man behind Nightel Humber, Humberside Airport’s only existing hotel which caters for workers in the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors, who work off the North Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire coast.

The latest development, which will be extendable as demand increases, is earmarked for land between Nightel Humber and the main A18 link road to Grimsby.

The hotel, which is expected to attract an international brand to the airport, will create nearly 60 jobs and will be part-funded by an RDF grant, organised via North Lincolnshire Council.

Work is expected to get underway on site as soon as planning consent is granted and the development is forecast to open its doors in summer next year.

Paul Green said: “As Humberside Airport develops and becomes more important both regionally and nationally, it needs a comfortable place for travellers to stay in order to remain competitive.

“Therefore we believe now is the right time to build a luxury hotel on site that can provide just that service.

“The plans are to create a top quality development in partnership with an international hotel brand that will offer business travellers everything they need for a comfortable stay and enable holidaymakers to kick off their vacations in style.”

“Both the council and Eastern Group have really helped us in planning the development so without them this exciting development wouldn’t be happening,” he said.

“Hopefully it will achieve planning consent at first attempt and work will be able to get underway shortly afterwards.”

Councillor Liz Redfern, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The project will help regenerate North Lincolnshire through job creation and enable people to stay longer in our area and give them chance to explore what’s on offer.

“We have a fantastic airport that is increasing its destinations. It is close to the main motorway that links the airport to Scunthorpe and surrounding areas, and has rail connections. It is ideally situated for a development of this size.

“When the plans are submitted we will of course carry out a full consultation with local people before any decision is made.”
