Chadwicks celebrate 70 years of business
~~Local metal and waste recyclers, Chadwicks Recycling, are celebrating their 70th year in business.
Since 1944, the family-owned and operated business has worked through five generations, from Stanley, great grandfather to Sean Chadwick, current Managing Director, to Sam, Sean’s nephew and the youngest family member in employment, at just 19 years old.
With two sites in Bolton and Leigh, Chadwicks use the latest equipment and machinery to process up to 150,000 tonnes of waste per year. It really does seem lifetimes away since setting up in plant hire and general haulage. Chadwicks are now a well-established waste management and recycling company, which services the whole of the North West.
Sean comments: “At 70 years old, we’re as good as we’ve ever been. We’re a really close family – I suppose we have to be, having worked together for 70 years! Currently there are three generations working for the business; my Dad, my brother and I, and nephew Sam who is the youngest prodigy of the family.”
The five generations of the Chadwicks family have seen their fair share of changes over the years, starting life during the Second World War, operating from just a horse and cart.
Clifford says: “I remember the times when we didn’t use million pound equipment to recycle waste. We used good old-fashioned hard work and our keen eye for detail, to determine recyclable and precious materials back then.”
Although retired, Clifford can still be seen popping in for a brew every now and then, further emphasising the family values upon which Chadwicks pride themselves.
Commenting on their longevity, Sean says: “We’ve certainly come a long way since our humble beginnings, and now offer reliable recycling solutions and skip hire to our customers throughout the North West. I’m sure my grandfather never imagined the success and growth that Chadwicks Recycling has achieved, which is down to everyone’s years of hard work.”
Sean added: “I’d like to thank everyone who’s been involved in the company over the years, from our staff at Chadwicks, to suppliers and our loyal customer base.”
Keen to celebrate this special anniversary, Chadwicks are looking forward to continued growth and further generations of the family working for the business. One thing’s for certain – if you ever need a Chadwick, there will always be one not too far away!
