Harewood dentists practice invests £100k in new equipment to keep up with demand

A dental practice near Leeds has invested over £100k in new state of the art equipment meaning that patients can receive complex treatments in just one visit, alleviating unnecessary discomfort and time commitments.

Dental Excellence Harewood can now perform restorations without the need to take impressions or provide temporary solutions.

The CEREC MCXL is one of only a dozen models currently used in the UK that is able to translate a digital scan of the affected tooth area and use 3D printing techniques to create a multi-unit Bridge, crown or other ceramic inlay/onlay in just six minutes.

This means that patients can receive an assessment, scan and have a replacement fully fitted in less than an hour, whereas the usual process can take weeks.

Furthermore the process means that ugly metal fillings are no longer required and the materials used are closer to the enamel’s properties and compatible with mouth tissue. The new bonding technique also allows better preservation of healthy material to create a stronger and more permanent result.

Jon Swarbrigg, academic, lecturer and practicing dentist at Dental Excellence Harewood, said, “CEREC uses CAD/CAM technology which is the future of dentistry and is very accurate and convenient for the patient.

“We are delighted to be one of just a few UK practices that can currently offer this convenience to patients but there is no added cost for the benefit. As a centre which also provides dental industry training we remain at the forefront of world leading innovation and can pass that benefit directly to our patients.

“Their comfort and convenience is our priority and if treatment can be accelerated using more friendly methods then there is a benefit for all.”
