Barnsley health sector supplier rebrands for further growth

A Barnsley firm which provides decontamination services to the healthcare sector is planning further growth following a successful rebrand.

Carequip was founded in 2010 under the name YD Healthcare but as the company developed a clearer name and stronger brand was needed.

Managing director Dean Swift received support from business coaches at Barnsley Business and Innovation Centre (BBIC) as part of the Enterprising Barnsley programme to develop his marketing and brand.

Carequip provides decontamination services to care companies and NHS community equipment stores cleaning anything from wheelchairs to pressurised mattresses.

Dean said: “Because patients are being discharged from hospital quickly these days, more and more patients require specialist equipment in their homes.”

“This equipment comes from community equipment stores which can have as many as 600 mattresses in each.

“When they’ve been loaned out they require specialist cleaning and that’s where we come in.”

Carequip, which employs four people, predominantly operates in the Yorkshire region but has just won its first contract in Lancashire.

“The business is growing and we realised that our existing brand didn’t reflect who we were,” added Dean, whose business is based at Carlton Industrial Estate in Barnsley.

“The help we’ve had from Barnsley Business and Innovation Centre has been excellent. We’ve now got a fantastic new website, name and stationery which puts us in a great position moving forward. We’re now looking at tenders, targeting other key sectors and adding to the Carequip team.”

Kevin Steel, business development manager at Barnsley Business and Innovation Centre, which provides coaching support through the Enterprising Barnsley programme, said: “Carequip has a huge amount of potential. The healthcare sector is enormous and there are some excellent opportunities awaiting companies like Carequip.

“We’ve been able to help Carequip improve its brand and sharpen up its marketing which hopefully will pay dividends for the company in the months and years to come.”
