Harrogate-based Bettys and Taylors post pretax profit up to £10 million

Yorkshire family business Bettys & Taylors Group has confirmed a year of strong growth across the two businesses.

Latest figures show that turnover has grown by 12% to £149.1 million and profit before tax was up to £10.1 million for the financial year that ended 31st October 2013.

The group expanded its operations overseas with a base in Dubai and the rolling out of well-known brand Yorkshire Tea to Australia.

Group finance & resources director, Paul Cogan, said: “Family businesses such as Bettys & Taylors are built on deeply held values, authenticity and great integrity.

“Our continued success reflects that our customers understand, appreciate and share the importance of these values.

“We’re very proud that, whatever the economic conditions, customers continue to value the quality of a visit to Bettys or proper cup of Yorkshire Tea.”

The Group comprises family tea and coffee merchant Taylors of Harrogate, six Bettys Café Tea Rooms, Bettys Online Shop, Craft Bakery and Bettys Cookery School, and supports the communities it operates within.

Over the year, the Group contributed £360,000 to charitable and community projects in Yorkshire and in tea and coffee growing countries.
