Sunderland electric vehicle charge point company partners with French industry leader
A North East electric vehicle charging point company has become one of only three selected companies in the UK to offer highly specialised rapid chargers that could save and earn businesses across the region thousands of pounds whilst reducing their carbon footprint.
Elm EV, based in Sunderland, specialises purely in the installation of electric vehicle charge points and only recently announced its plans to move into the commercial market following its huge success installing systems in homes across the region.
It is this move into the commercial market which has seen the company approached by a global leader in the manufacture of electric vehicle charging points - French based DBT - to become one of only three certified companies in the UK to install and programme their rapid charge points.
Elm EV will have sole responsibility for all installations and programming from the Borders to Cumbria and is already gearing itself up for expansion as it takes on the role of certified installer and programmer for the French units.
Anthony Piggott, Technical Director at Elm EV said: “We are very proud to be able to offer this product and service to our customers. Being an accredited installer and programmer of this rapid charging unit means we can deliver the most cost effective solution to our client. So from install to programming and maintenance we can do the whole lot meaning companies save a substantial amount of money as opposed to bringing people in at different stages of the process. As a company, our aim has always been to provide the most cost effective solutions to our customers and with this certification we are able to do exactly that.”
As part of becoming only one of three certified installers in the UK, the ELM EV team travelled to France where they spent two days on one of the industry’s most intensive training programmes. This involved learning not only how to install the high specification DBT charging units but then technical programming the systems to ensure they perform to the standards expected by the French manufacturer.
The DBT unit - available to large scale commercial businesses - is one of the most reliable chargers available on the electric car charger market. With rapid charging facilities, the system can charge in as little as 20-30 minutes, providing a fast solution for businesses where charging can’t wait. Having a world class design, the DBT is very robust and can be installed in both indoor and outdoor applications. The unit is incredibly user friendly and simple to operate being an ideal charging point solution in a public car park.
Anthony added: “Elm EV install only the highest quality charge points, from the most reputable manufacturers. The DBT unit is our flagship model and it is extremely popular with our customers. By installing this system, not only is a business placed on the electric vehicle map network as an available charging resource, but many of our customers have also taken advantage of adding a tariff to their system, thereby benefitting from an additional revenue stream, whilst also increasing footfall to their business.”
With a surge in electric vehicle registrations across the UK - up 59% between 2012 and 2013 - the car charging network across the UK continues to develop at speed.
Elm EV provide charge points to a range of businesses throughout the country from restaurants and bars, to supermarkets and public car parks.
