A busy business owner? These things will help you work smarter
First things first.
Start your day with looking at your calendar and prioritising your schedule. Focus on at least one critical task during the time of day when you have most energy and few distractions. For most people this is usually in the morning, when your mind is still fresh.
Write down your goals.
By writing your goals down you are making them more achievable as you are putting a physical action to actually do it. It also keeps you on track with your long term objective and purpose. Writing your goals down can also help prevent you getting caught up in the trivia of daily tasks and help prevent you losing sight of what brings your business profitability.
Single-task.
We live in a world that praises multi-tasking. Unfortunately, when you have too much going on at once you may become distracted by interruptions and unimportant issues. To be productive and effective, focus on one task at a time to avoid distractions.
Delegate.
Especially in the early days of your business, you may find yourself thinking that you can do everything yourself. As true as it can be in some instances, in reality, routine tasks are frequently taking you away from the important projects that actually generate income for your business. Hire someone to help you with daily errands and focus on what really matters.
Take breaks throughout the day.
Breaks are crucial to stay productive during the day. If we don’t take small breaks on a semi-regular basis we burn out much quicker and start being a lot less efficient. Taking even 5-10 minutes breaks to go outside or having a healthy snack, allows your brain to rest and reload. Taking small breaks through the day will leave you recharged and more efficient
Use technology.
Increase your effectiveness through technology. In the digital era, there is plenty of resource to help you increase your productivity. For example, to save time on travelling, you can schedule videoconferencing and attend online webinars. Also, using online filing cabinets allows you to store your documents in one place, which makes them much easier to find, and they will take up less space. To keep on track of projects and deadlines, without having to remind yourself all the time, you can use online calendars, reminders and project management tools.
