Apprentices – you’re hired

Three new apprentices have joined Capita, one of the UK’s leading multidisciplinary consultancies, in support of its partnership with North Tyneside Council.

The posts are among five apprenticeships being created by Capita in North Tyneside this year – and are in addition to 12 apprenticeships created in 2013.

Darren Whitfield, 20, of Howdon, is a cleaning apprentice, Beth Nichol, 18, of Killingworth, is a business administration apprentice, and Louise Sword, 18, of North Shields, is a business administration and trading standards apprentice.

Operations Director Barry Pilkington said: “We’re delighted to welcome more apprentices into our business.

“The benefits are mutual. The apprentices bring some real vibrancy and enthusiasm into the workplace while we can provide a career path and the ability to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.”

Darren said: “I’m really enjoying it. I’ve been cleaning since I left school but this is a change of environment and, because it’s an apprenticeship, gives more opportunities.”

Beth added: “I wanted to join Capita because it’s a big business to work for. I’m keen to develop a career in business support and this is a great way of doing that.”

Louise said: “There’s a lot of variety in the work I’m doing – yesterday I was involved in an alcohol test purchase operation. I’m enjoying it and hopefully it will lead to a permanent position.”
