Drug manufacturer celebrates manufacturer celebrates very Special birthday

A local medicines’ manufacturer that has been in the region since 1999 has marked its birthday with a host of celebrations.

Celebrating its 15th year in business, Northumberland-based The Specials Laboratory will be treating its 130 staff to a lunch and throwing a party to celebrate its milestone year.

Jan Armstrong, head of marketing at The Specials Laboratory said: “Our birthday celebrations are all about saying thanks to each and every one of our staff who have helped us service pharmacies and indeed patients across the UK over the last 15 years.

“As a local company employing people from the surrounding communities, we have always looked to play a role in the community over the years as opposed to just running a business. In that time, we have proudly donated hundreds of thousands of pounds to local charities and community initiatives. Fingers crossed, this will continue for at least another 15 years.”

The Specials Laboratory manufactures ‘specials’ from its three sites in Northumberland, which are tailor-made for individual patients who would not be able to get a licensed equivalent otherwise.

The company works with thousands of pharmacists across the UK and prides itself on consistently delivering over 90% of specials in just 24 hours.
