Leamington’s latest new affordable homes completed

The first residents are moving into new homes that are helping to complete a regenerated area of Leamington Spa with much-needed new affordable housing.

The first 14 homes at Regal Park have been handed over to Waterloo Housing Group by Coventry-based firm Deeley Construction, as part of the Deeley Group’s wider regeneration of the Queensway area.

The rented homes, which have been let through the council’s Home Choice scheme, are the latest to be delivered through the W2 housing partnership between Waterloo and Warwick District Council.

The partnership also benefits from investment support from the government’s Homes and Communities Agency.

More homes will follow at the site, with a total of 72 attractive new affordable homes for local people completed at Regal Park by November 2014.

Demand has been extremely high for the 45 rented properties and 27 homes sold through shared ownership. Other housing schemes by the W2 partnership to provide more affordable homes are underway or in the pipeline.

Local councillors, including Councillor John Knight, the Mayor of Royal Leamington Spa, have visited the site to see the progress made at Regal Park.

The visit included guests seeing the 14 finished apartments just prior to residents moving in, as well as a newly-furnished house to showcase shared ownership properties by Waterloo Homes at this and other locations in the area.

Councillor Alan Wilkinson, vice-chairman of Warwick District Council, said: “It is really exciting to see at first-hand the transformation of this site into such an attractive collection of houses and apartments. The development is a prime example of how Warwick District Council and their partner Waterloo Housing Group are tackling the desperate need for affordable housing in the district.”

Peter Deeley, managing director of the Deeley Group, said: “This is a significant point in the development for all the partners involved. The first residents are moving in and that is what this scheme is all about – to provide homes for people in the Leamington area.

“We are delighted with the progress and very grateful to the mayor and his colleagues for coming along to see how work is moving forward. There was great talk on the day of how impressed everybody was with the quality of the homes on show. A number of the homes are built to the Lifetime Homes Standard and will certainly provide comfortable living for the families that move in there.”

Anthony Riley, group director of development and operations at Waterloo Housing Group, added: “It is a very successful scheme, which is creating much-needed affordable homes on a brownfield site – and an example of our excellent relationship with Deeley and Warwick District Council.”
