Platinum investment breaks new ground again

Harrogate-based printer, Platinum has announced further investment in new technology at its Hookstone Park base. Earlier this year the firm became the first UK company to install the ground-breaking Komori HUV printing press at a value of £750k.

The latest investment is in digital inkjet flat-bed printing technology and is part of a total £300k investment which also includes, building refurbishment and expansion. Further investments in technology are due to follow later this year and will include a digital cutting table.

Managing director, Mark Plummer said: “The ambitious plans we have at Platinum include being the first print company in the area to invest in this technology.

“We are planning further purchases in associated machinery later in the year and also hope to add to our team here at Hookstone Park.”

The Oce Arizona 350GT printer uses 5 colours including opaque white so is perfect for window graphics. It can also be used to print directly onto glass, ceramics, plastics and metals up to 50mm thick.

As well as the ability to print individual items the machine also comes with roll-to-roll print technology which increases its banner and poster production capability, perfectly complementing the firm’™s existing two Mimaki large format printers and cutters

Mark Plummer added: “Almost everywhere you look nowadays you see signage, point of sale, banners, flags and digital wallpapers. Purchasing the new machinery opens up a huge and growing marketplace for Platinum.

“One of the first tests will be printing my daughter’s bedroom door with her favourite team’s mascot then perhaps moving on to Platinum’s meeting room table top or ceramic tiles - the possibilities are endless.”

Platinum Print was founded 25 years ago and its client base is spread throughout Yorkshire and includes Engage Mutual, the iconic Betty/Taylors confectionary and tea shop chain, multi-dealership vehicle company JCT600, Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Club and Yorkshire Wildlife.

The company now operates from an 18,000 sq. ft. factory on the outskirts of Harrogate, employs 29 staff and turns over £3.2 million annually. In the last twelve months it recorded an 13% increase in turnover and it is targeting a 15% increase in the next year.
