China delegation visit to Liverpool Waters tops off IFB for Peel
A high-level seven-strong delegation from the Jiading district of Shanghai has visited Peel Holding’s Liverpool Waters marketing suite at Princes Dock to listen to and understand the development opportunities offered by this waterfront site.
Building on relationships established during the city’s attendance and Peel’s sponsorship of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, Peel welcomed the delegation which included three senior directors and the chief of the general office from the Jiading district.
Jiading, one of the 18 districts which make up the city, is located to the northwest of Shanghai. It covers an area of 180 square miles, has a population of around 1.5 million and is home to Shanghai’s university and international motor racing circuit.
On the visit, Peel’s Development Director Lindsey Ashworth who gave a detailed presentation said: “The visit is the culmination of a number of months of planning. The festival has been excellent for us and enabled us to attract international delegations such as this one.
“Since planning consent for Liverpool Waters was secured at the end of last year, it has been no secret that we have been courting investors and partners from China to help us deliver the next phases of this development.
“It’s early days but the visit went extremely well so we are very optimistic about continuing discussions over the coming weeks and months.
“As a direct result of this meeting, we have been invited to visit Jiading to meet with other government officials and businesses based there who have an interest in investing and expanding into the UK.”
Chair of IFB2014, Max Steinberg said: “Peel’s investment in its marketing facilities really makes a fantastic impression on visitors. It’s encouraging news that they have welcomed this delegation and the response was very positive.
“We are constantly working on strengthening our relationships with China and seeking common ground in sector excellence.
“Liverpool Waters obviously has enormous significance for the future of the city and we look forward to hearing more about the next steps.”
