iPad donation will ‘exercise’ the mind of pupils

It’s ‘ready steady, action’, for pupils taking gym lessons at Greenland Community Primary School, based in South Moor, Stanley, following the donation of six iPads from building and roofing specialist, Hodgson Sayers.

As part of its 35th birthday celebrations, the company and staff have identified a range of fundraising events and worthy causes that it wishes to help, with support for a local school being a priority.

Rose Bainbridge, Headteacher at Greenland Community Primary School, said: “We heard about the company’s pledge to support the local community and were thrilled when it responded to our request for a donation of iPads.

“The six iPads will be used primarily for outdoor learning and physical education, where the children video themselves in activities such as gymnastics so they can replay their efforts and see how they can improve on their technique.

“Our under-seven football team also took part in a tournament, playing against other youngsters from South Moor, Consett and Wickham. Hodgson Sayers kindly donated a medal to each player which was a great gesture and made the pupils feel very special.”

So far this year, members of the Hodgson Sayers team have taken part in a number of community focussed initiatives including a three day charity bike ride, blood donation and three staff have signed up to the Great North Run. In addition, Beamish Tigers football club has benefitted from a brand new football kit.

John Sayers, Managing Director at Hodgson Sayers, said: “It would be very easy for us to just host a party to celebrate our anniversary but we wanted to create a legacy, one that reflects our commitment to the local community.

“We are proud of our Durham roots and the majority of our workforce live in and around the Stanley area, so we continually look to give something back.

“Greenland Community Primary School is a much loved, well known school within the local area and we wanted to donate something that could benefit the children’s learning. We approached the school and iPads were top of the agenda.

“We are looking forward to strengthening our relationship with the school and to create opportunities to enhance pupil learning.”

Established in 1979, as Hodgson & Allon, the company began primarily as a roofing contractor. Over the years it has developed and diversified considerably to include building works, fencing and metalwork fabrication.

Its ISO 9001 accredited operations are reflected in the consistently high standards of delivery, presentation and all processes.
