Valeos back charity Business Club with a difference

MARTIN House Children’s Hospice launched a new business club at Rudding Park to promote greater benefits for corporate supporters.

Sponsored by long term backer, David Ross, of Valeos, the Martin House Business Club aims to provide a sustainable fund raising model while giving donors a return on their investment.

John Haigh, head of corporate fund raising, said it had taken some time to develop because Martin House was keen to prove its business club would offer tangible and meaningful benefits.

“We are asking investors to sign up for three years and during that time we will prove to them that the relationship has a payback as well as fulfilling that all important Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) remit,” he said.

“It is challenging for any charity to think of new ways to raise money. Many others already have a business club. We wanted to have a specific target for ours and build a resilient model that will evolve and improve beyond the initial three year contract. It is all about relationship building.

“Our target is 100 businesses by the end of this year to help us pay for a care specialist,” he added.

David Ross wanted to push the Martin House Business Club through because it is aligned with his own business Valeos which aims to offer businesses and the third sector added value to their customer offer.

“The Martin House value of caring for the whole family resonates with Valeos because we look at the wider community of our customers and how their offer can benefit all their stakeholders,” he said.

In return for a commitment of £250 per year for three years business club members will have their company logo on the revamped Martin House website, have access to CSR opportunities, work with the Wetherby hospice on social media, receive preferential rates for fund raising events and attend regular networking events.
