North Shields car showroom to be converted into children’s play centre
North Tyneside council granted planning permission for the conversion of a former car showroom in North Shields into a children’s play centre.
Funtastic will be located on the site of the abandoned Subaru garage on Queen Alexandra Road West in North Shields.
The project will create eight full time staff, and between 14 and 16 part time positions including playworkers and catering staff.
The property will house a main play section as well as a toddler’s play section, cafe and two party function rooms.
Doncaster-based children’s play equipment developers, House of Play will project manage the construction of the 1,670 sq metre site. Staff training will also be conducted by the Yorkshire firm.
Mark Lane, who is heading up the project, told Bdaily: “We are delighted to have had our planning application granted by North Tyneside Council.
“This is exactly what the area needs. There is nothing to this standard or scale in the surrounding area, and it will bring life back to the previously abandoned plot.”
“We’re also pleased announce the creation of approximately 24 jobs during this difficult economic time. We have received a lot of positive feedback about the project, and can’t wait to get started on the build.”
