Durham CCC helps young people gain employability skills

Durham County Cricket club is working with North East training provider Profound Services, to help five young people develop skills for the working world.

The club has developed the Leading Edge programme aimed at people aged between 16 and 23. The traineeship will see the successful young people gain experience in various areas within Durham CCC.

The programme will last for eight weeks, and is open to young people across the region. Additional Maths and English training for trainees who require a skills booster is also available from Profound.

David Harker, chief executive of Durham County Cricket Club, said: “We have all heard about the number of young people struggling to get into work across the country, and though it is an improving picture, this is in no small part thanks to training providers and businesses working in partnership to create the right opportunities, at the right level, to give people their first step on the career ladder.

“We do a great deal of community work at Durham County Cricket Club, so launching Leading Edge is just another way that we can do our bit to help people across the County and the wider North East region.

“The range and scope of jobs here at the club is so varied, so the young people on this programme will get to grips with a range of different roles. For them, it is a great chance to find out where their talents lie, and for us, it’s a good chance to bring in some fresh thinking, imagination and talent. We’re delighted to have developed the programme with Profound, and we’re looking forward to welcoming the successful candidates over the next few weeks.”

The Leading Edge programme is recruiting now and is open to any 16-19 year olds qualified below level three and any 19-23 year old that have not achieved a full level two.

To apply for the programme visit www.profoundservices.com/leadingedge before August 1, 2014. The successful candidates will begin their role with the club – an eight week full time work placement - on August 8, 2014.
