Social enterprise makes an IMPACT in Sunderland
Following an increase in demand for its services, I.M.P.A.C.T Northeast CIC, a new social enterprise which provides services to schools and local communities, has relocated into the heart of Sunderland city centre.
Set up at the University of Sunderland’s Enterprise Place by counselling student Sharon Boyd, the business provides one to one, as well as group support, which empowers and helps individuals and families to rise above difficult circumstances.
Having developed the business with the support of the Enterprise Place, Sharon approached Sustainable Enterprise Strategies (SES) an organisation based in Hendon, Sunderland, which has a history of supporting the development of community focused organisations.
During Sharon’s time at The Enterprise Place she went on to forge an alliance with two other graduates enterprises - Susan Burns Counselling and Anna Heyman Research. The work of Susan and Anna complements the service set of I.M.P.A.C.T
Moving into new premises at SES means I.M.P.A.C.T can now deliver its support through a dedicated family therapy room.
Speaking about the benefits of the move, Sharon said: “Moving into our new premises places us in the heart of the city allowing everyone easy access by public transport. We now have our own family therapy room with access to further rooms as and when required which will make a major difference to us. Seeing my dream come to life is the most amazing feeling in the world, my vision is to channel my passion for social equity and improvement to support growth within our communities.”
Vince Robson, Business Development Manager at the University, said: “Sharon has shown that with hard work and determination you can thrive and grow a business in even the most difficult of economic times.
“We are very proud to have supported her and although sad to see her move out of The Enterprise Place, we are thrilled that she has found a dedicated space that will enable her to deliver counseling sessions to her ever growing client base. Sharon will continue to receive business advice and support through our network of advisers.”
