Geneius Laboratories moves into Cramlington

Geneius Laboratories, a world leading DNA-based food and drinks testing company, has leased a 20,000 sqft building at Colbourne Crescent, Nelson Park, Cramlington.

Founded in the North East and spun out of Newcastle University, Geneius is one of the Region’s high tech success stories.

The move from laboratory space in the University to the Cramlington site is a step change for the Company and will allow for many years of growth.

Prof. Jerry Barnes managing director of Geneius said: “The building, owned by UK Land Estates and previously subject to a £3m investment to convert it into a state-of-the-art laboratory, represents a perfect opportunity for us,

“With help from UK Land Estates, Northumberland County Council and Arch, we were able to adapt the facility to our specific use and be up and running in double quick time.”

Jerry Barnes explains: “Our unique DNA-based methods deliver unprecedented levels of accuracy and speed for food and drink producers and major retailers.

“The acquisition of this laboratory space has enabled us to fulfill our expansion plans ahead of time. We have relocated, attained the rigorous accreditations necessary for our operation, and continued to deliver our services without a pause – a success for all the agencies involved and a tribute to our team at Geneius.”
