Blyth engineers reach final of national excellence awards
A Blyth-based original equipment design and manufacture specialist has been named as a finalist in the national Mechanical Engineers’ ‘Manufacturing Excellence’ Awards.
Following an in-depth assessment, Tharsus Group has been named as a finalist in the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise category, which will be announced at a prestigious ceremony on 30th September at the University of Warwick.
After originally being shortlisted for the award earlier in the summer, a team of assessors from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) visited Tharsus’ factory in Northumberland, where they took a tour of the facility, met and interviewed key personnel and inspected the company’s innovative design and manufacturing capabilities.
It’s the second time in 12 months the company has reached the final of an SME category in a national awards.
In 2013 the company was named Best SME in the Best Factory Awards, which is run by the respected Cranfield School of Management.
Chief executive Brian Palmer said: “Reaching the final of the Manufacturing Excellence Awards is a fantastic achievement for the business.
“In a relatively short period we have received some outstanding endorsements for the investments we’ve made our manufacturing capabilities from respected organisations such as the Cranfield School of Business, and now IMechE, which reaffirms our commitment to creating world-class facilities.”
Tharsus opened its full-product manufacturing facility in Blyth two years ago and established itself as a pioneer in the field of Original Equipment Design and Manufacture (OEDM).
OEDM is an evolution of the traditional contract manufacturing mode where Tharsus works with companies looking to grow, improve or diversify their product portfolio.
The company take responsibility for part or all of the process from concept design, development and prototyping, technology integration and supply chain management through to final assembly and serial manufacture.
