Yorkshire Environmental Company Raises Over £18,000 For Good Causes
Final sponsorships are in and Leo Group, one of the country’s leading environmental companies, has raised over £18,000 for good causes with a team taking part in the Clarion Corporate Challenge Leeds 10k on Sunday 20 July 2014.
This is the third year the green energy and recycling specialists has led the fund-raising efforts in the 10k road race, with its 14-strong team generating important funds for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Sue Ryder Appeal, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Pancreatic Cancer UK.
The Clarion Corporate Challenge – part of the ASDA Foundation’s Leeds 10k – encourages local businesses to pit teams of runners against each other, and this year the event saw more than 60 teams from businesses across the region taking part. The team’s times are calculated as the average of the team member’s individual performances meaning teams of all sizes can compete as fairly as possible.
Leo Group’s team - that included managing director, Danny Sawrij, and his wife Jo - managed to raise a total of £18,489 through sponsorship, with their average time coming in at just under an hour.
Mr Sawrij said: “This was a fantastic achievement by both colleagues and friends that took part in the run.
“In the previous two years our fundraising through this event has been extremely successful, and this year was no exception with our total far exceeding last year’s.
“I’d like to thank everybody who kindly made donations, but also to those who supported us at the event.”
Leo Group, which employs more than 400 people across its ten operational sites in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, is at the forefront of the recycling and green energy sectors.
The company has donated more than £200,000 to good causes over the past two years. In addition to specific fundraising events like the Clarion Corporate Challenge, its Community Fund – that supports charities and grassroots organisations across the area, particularly those that benefit children - has made a key contribution to this figure.
