Rejuvenated Stockton centre welcomes Costa Coffee

Stockton town centre’s multi-million pound facelift has been boosted by the arrival of high street cafe Costa Coffee.

The finishing touches are still being made to Stockton Council’s impressive investment which has changed the landscape of an ageing town centre.

And the town’s Mayor tried her hand at being a barista for the day when she officially opened the new cafe.

Councillor Barbara Inman, Mayor of Stockton, cut the ribbon to open the new store on Stockton’s High Street.

“I would like to welcome Costa Coffee and its staff to the town centre,” she said.

“As the transformation of Stockton High Street is now in its final year the council wants to further attract and support businesses to open in the Town.

“This national chain is a welcome addition to our High Street and will complement the wide range of independent stores and cafes on offer.”

Costa Coffee is ideally located opposite the central part of Stockton High Street where a stylish water feature along with seating, lighting and grass is currently being created and next door to the new, expanded Enterprise Arcade building which will open this Autumn and be home to a range of independent shops.

Emma Nixon, area manager for Costa, said: “We’re delighted to open our new store in Stockton and provide jobs for 11 local people in the Town Centre.

“Costa Coffee offers a wide range of coffees, cakes, sandwiches, and much more and we hope that this new store will attract people to visit Stockton Town Centre, sit a while and enjoy a coffee.”

Costa Coffee is the latest cafe to open in the town centre and joins other new venues offering visitors and residents a place to stop and refuel, meet up with friends and enjoy the shopping experience.

In July a new branch of popular Billingham restaurant, Mohujos opened on Stockton’s Riverside offering diners a wide range of Mexican food and riverside views.
