Taylor&Emmet Aces First Lexcel Assessment

An independent review has found Sheffield’s Taylor&Emmet LLP is exceeding the requirements of the Law Society’s mark of quality, Lexcel, by a “significant extent.”

A year after securing the internationally recognised accreditation, the firm of solicitors has achieved a very high number of areas of good practice in all sections assessed.

This first annual appraisal of Taylor&Emmet’s Lexcel compliance confirmed its continued excellence in practice management across key criteria, including relationships with staff, client care and the way it handles files and cases.

Law Society approved assessor, Michael Johnson, spent three days at the firm. He concluded: “The practice has exceeded the requirements of Lexcel to a significant extent, which is an encouraging sign especially for a practice operating from four separate offices. This has been an impressive demonstration of Lexcel compliance.”

Taylor&Emmet was commended for its technical and pastoral support, with the assessor reporting “a naturally entrenched culture of practical supervision pervades this practice.” Confirming there were no areas of non-compliance, Mr Johnson noted a number of examples where advice from Lexcel had been implemented to good effect, such as the consistent use of client care letters, independent file reviews and operational risk assessments.

Felicity Kay, Taylor&Emmet’s head of risk and compliance, added: “Our first Lexcel assessment proceeded very smoothly and we are pleased to receive such a complimentary report from Mr Johnson. In the last year, we have seen a number of changes within the business, not least our merger with Bakewell firm, Cockertons and it is a credit to our staff that we have maintained compliance at such a high level.”
